For a Highlander to be considered miniature, it must be be under 42 inches (approximately 106cm) fully grown. These cattle are extremely rare to find and hard to breed.
Any Highland over 48 inches (approximately 122cm) is considered standard size.
While nature has a part to play, our resident breeders (cows and bulls) stand only waist height and are well below the size of a standard Highlander.
-
The full height of a cow cannot be measured until three (3) years of age.
Using growth rate in younger cattle enables us to predict the full size of your cow. Please keep in mind, this is an imperfect science though and we can only do our best.
Any fully grown Galloway under 125cm (measured at the tallest point) is considered miniature.

Our first priority is to give families across Australia, the same joy these cattle have bought us.
It is important to understand that while miniature, these cattle are herd animals and you should consider cow company for your new addition. Miniature cattle can not be kept in a standard suburban backyard.
For those with slightly more space, the miniatures don’t ask for much - access to fresh water, simple protection from the weather and lot’s of human interaction!
A lot of work goes in to ensuring our cattle are in good health - physically and behaviourally.
As quoted by the Australian Highland Cattle Society, "the Highland is a disease resistant breed. Long lashes and forelocks shield their eyes from flying insects, and as a result, pinkeye and cancer eye are less common. Highlands do not stress easily, so stress-related diseases occur with less frequency. Other bovine diseases affect the Highland less, due to the advantage of the genetic purity they have achieved."

Yes! These hairy cattle thrive in all conditions due to their ability to moderate their coat based on the conditions.
In winter, the cattle will cleverly grow their winter coat and in spring, or hotter climates, they will shed them.
These cattle are hardy and low maintenance. No clipping or shearing required!

The miniature breed was initiated through the smallest cows from each herd mating with each other. So while this can be an organic process, man obviously had a part to play by mirroring this process through selective husbandry.
Sadly, some boutique breeding programs (particularly in dogs) purposely breed genetic disorders into animals to make them look a certain way, causing health concerns. This is not the case with this breeding program and we are proud to be playing our part in continuing these beautiful breeds using ethical measures.

Highlanders and Galloways are less prone to common cattle conditions. They also do well in poorer conditions. As an estimate, they live for approximately 17-20 years.

When considering a miniature cow, you might ask yourself - horns or no horns?
It is really up to the individual and what suits your family. We pride ourselves on breeding miniature cattle that have a great temperament regardless of whether they have horns or not.
We view horns as a trademark of the highlander breed so have chosen to build our herd with horns. You will see that some highlanders are quite conscious of their horns and even purposely move their horns up and away from small children (bless!).
Any miniature highlanders born here, are likely to have horns.
Galloways do not have horns and any pure bred miniature Galloways born here will not have horns.
If you wish to have the best of both worlds (Highlander x Galloway), it is really up to pot luck as to whether the offspring will have horns or not.
As you can see, we are likely to have the perfect fit based on your needs. Either way, you can guarantee falling in love with your miniature wooly cow.

Absolutely! Highlanders and Galloways are known for their easy calving. If you choose to keep breeding stock, you may see your cattle breeding right up until they are 18 years old.
We advocate for responsible breeding and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Please note: We occasionally have breeding stock for sale, however they are in high demand and come with a higher price tag. As paddock pets, steers are the best option. They are incredibly level headed and loveable.
-
Throughout the sale process, we give you plenty of options - pick and choose as you like!
Initially, particularly leading up to calving season, you may be required to join a waitlist. Preference will be given to motivated buyers who are properly set up to take on a miniature.
Once you have decided to go ahead with purchase, you will have the opportunity to visit and meet your cow as well as a video session with us to ask any burning questions you may have. During this session we will explore things like whether you’d like to name your cow so we can start using this for familiarity.
The cattle will stay with their mother for a period of time to ensure they have the best start in life. You have options when it comes to weaning and basic training. We look forward to talking further with you about this.
-
During your meet and greet visit, we will work with you to establish a relationship between you and your cow. If you wish for your cow to be halter trained, we can also start that process for you from a young age.
Additionally, we have kits available to purchase to ensure successful handling, feeding, vaccination and supplementing your miniature.

We pride ourselves on being transparent and in-touch with our clients. Once you secure a miniature, there is no limit on how many questions you can ask. We would be more than happy to send photos and updates prior to taking your calf home.
We recommend staying up to date with us on Instagram and Facebook for real-time cuteness!
